Lighter kitchen would brighten her mother's day

I am submitting for my mom, who also lives in Elk Grove Village. She is the best person I know and never spends money on herself. She is an ER nurse, cares for her two grandsons, helps her brother with Parkinson's, and is always helping her kids fix up their homes instead of improving her own.

My mom's kitchen has not been updated since the house was built in the 1970s and has so much potential! With improved cabinets, her whole room would be transformed. Please help me give back to my mom, who has given so much to others!

Budget: $8,000 to $10,000 depending on finishes, plumbing, etc.

The current kitchen cabinets are very dark and the entire kitchen could be brightened up with just lighter colored cabinets. The countertop appears to be in good condition, but would look great updated to something more modern and with some color.

Suggestions

• Kitchen Planet would choose either a light-colored wood or white cabinet refacing to update the room and also brighten it up. With the refacing of the existing cabinets, there is virtually no mess or downtime to the homeowner and the entire kitchen looks fresh and modern afterward.

• We would also suggest a new countertop in a light colored granite or marble look. This would offer an updated, more contemporary look to match the new cabinets, not to mention a great new workspace to cook and enjoy family!

• We would also recommend a new stainless steel sink and new faucet with sprayer built into it.
