Applications now available for Hanover Township holiday programs

Hanover Township families facing financial hardship can now apply for the annual December holiday sponsor-a-family and toy drive programs.

Applications will be accepted Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Astor Avenue Community Center, 7431 Astor Ave., in Hanover Park.

Residents must be signed in by 10:30 a.m. to guarantee an appointment. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 19.

"Last year 661 families were sponsored and more than 1,726 children received gifts from our toy drive," said Hanover Township Supervisor Brian P. McGuire. "We understand that providing an enjoyable experience during the holidays can be financially difficult and encourage struggling parents and guardians to apply for these programs."

Required documents for the application process include: valid ID, utility bill dated within the last 30 days, birth certificate for children ages 15 and younger or medical card, proof of income covering the last 30 days prior to the date of the application.

Additional items may be requested to determine eligibility. Letters will be sent on Dec. 11 to applicants that have been approved.
