Arrest in 2015 Aurora home invasion, shooting and attempted murder

Authorities have arrested a 39-year-old man who was wanted on charges that he forced his way into his ex-girlfriend's Aurora house in 2015 and shot her boyfriend.

Enrique B. Jaquez, of the 300 block of Pearl Street, Montgomery, was wanted for about 3½ years after being charged with home invasion, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and numerous other felonies in connection with the March 27, 2015 attack, according to Kane County court records.

According to the court records, Jaquez was arrested in September by Homeland Security after he tried to re-enter the country. He was taken to the Kane County jail last weekend, where he is held on $750,000 bail.

The original charges stem from an accusation that Jaquez went to the house of his now 38-year-old ex-girlfriend, with whom he has a 17-year-old daughter, and demanded the woman's boyfriend come out to the front lawn, according to an order of protection in Kane County court records.

The boyfriend stayed inside the house on the 1800 block of Brighton Circle, but Jaquez went to the front door waving a handgun and broke the bottom of a screen door and crawled through, records show. Once inside, he shrugged off the woman, who tried to stop him, and fired two shots at her boyfriend, one hitting him in the left rib cage, court records show.

The boyfriend, now 43, ran from the house and was later taken to a hospital. Jaquez drove off and was a wanted fugitive for 3½ years.

According to the order of protection, Jaquez was verbally and physically abusive to his ex-girlfriend and had been suspected of damaging her car and her boyfriend's vehicle. Jaquez also tried to forcibly drag his daughter into his car by her hoodie, according to the order.

If Jaquez is able to post $75,000 bond, he is to have no contact with the victims and must stay away from his ex-girlfriend's residence and other locations.

If convicted of the most severe charge, he faces up to 30 years in prison, plus additional penalties if a court determines he personally fired the gun in the attack. He is due in court Oct. 24.
