Endorsement: Daily Herald endorses Conroy over Kinzler in Illinois House District 46

We frequently have complained about the lack of courage in the General Assembly to do the right thing, and in particular, about the lack of courage among Illinois House Democrats to challenge powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan. Democratic State Rep. Deb Conroy of Villa Park has demonstrated the courage to do both, directly addressing inappropriate behavior by one of Madigan's top political aides and showing bravery and leadership in combating a culture of harassment and bullying against women in Springfield. Her opponent for re-election, surgeon Gordon "Jay" Kinzler, has been an effective and cost-conscious member of the Glen Ellyn park board and we have no doubt that he would be an energetic, if loquacious, legislator. But Conroy has served Illinois House District 46 well and has earned the electorate's vote and our endorsement.
