McHenry County man charged in Elmhurst bank robbery
A 31-year-old McHenry County man is facing a federal bank robbery charge stemming from the holdup of a Bank of America in Elmhurst last week, the FBI announced Thursday.
Evan L. Hall of Lakewood used intimidation to steal nearly $3,000 from the bank in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.
Authorities say Hall walked into the bank wearing a hooded sweatshirt and pajama pants at 10:36 a.m. Oct. 6, handed a deposit slip to the bank teller then told her "I have a gun and if you don't give me all your money, I will start shooting people."
The teller complied, but also placed a GPS tracker inside the nearly $3,000 cash t handed over. After taking the money, Hall ran out of the bank, court documents state.
Authorities traced the tracker to a gas station in the 400 block of South Kostner Avenue in Chicago, where they located Hall, an FBI affidavit states.
Hall also was in possession of an car that was reported stolen in McHenry County earlier in the day, authorities say. When questioned, Hall admitted to the robbery and turned over about $2,886 in stolen money.
Hall appeared in court Tuesday and was ordered held in federal custody.
