Band director deserves recognition

To Dr. JoAnne Smith: As I sit here on an early fall evening with the windows open, I'm listening to the Batavia High School band practice as I have on so many evenings, and I am writing to commend your band director, Ryan Van Kley.

I am a retired middle school teacher of 30 years, I am impressed with Mr. Van Kley's demeanor with the students. He works the band very hard with stellar results. He is unfailingly polite to the band members and takes special care to insure that each student understands what his expectations are. I have never heard him lose his composure no matter how long his day has been or how late the practice goes. The kids rise to his very high level of expectations, mainly because he is such an exemplary teacher.

The world needs more teachers like Mr. Van Kley. He should be acknowledged and appreciated for his dedication and diligence.
