Rotary clubs head hurricane relief effort

Naperville-area residents are being asked to help fill a trailer with items to assist Lumberton, North Carolina, a city devastated by flooding in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

The second weekend collection, sponsored by four Rotary clubs of Naperville, is planned for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13, at the Garden Plots along West Street across from Knoch Park.

Organizers are asking service clubs, faith organizations, homeowners associations, businesses and individuals to join the communitywide service project by donating tools, tarps, personal care items, nonperishable food items, dehumidifiers, bottled water, box fans, insect repellent and other items listed at rcndowntown.com.

All items must be new and no clothing will be accepted.

Rotary District 6450 Governor Nominee Chuck Corrigan, a Rotarian and past president of the Rotary Club of Naperville/Downtown, is coordinating the effort in Lumberton with April Clark, Rotary District 7730 governor in North Carolina.

A trailer and driver has been provided by 4:44 Rotarian and Naperville resident Rocky Caylor, the president and CEO of Cadence Premier Logistics, a company experienced in delivering emergency relief.
