Elgin police officers bring the community together over coffee

What better way to get to know the Elgin Police Department than over a cup of McCafe coffee on National Coffee With A Cop Day.

The Elgin McDonald's, located at 1480 Larkin Ave, hosted the Elgin Police Department for National Coffee With A Cop Day, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, which aims to bring the community together. They did just that by serving coffee to the many community members that stopped by to have some conversation with their local police officers.

David Bear, owner-operator of the Elgin-based McDonald's franchise, said that taking part in such community-building events help to bridge relationships between residents and the local police force. Bear says events like these are a great opportunity for residents to ask questions and voice their concerns as well as have the chance to personally meet the officers that serve the community.

On hand for this one-hour community gathering were several of the Elgin Police Departments finest, including, Commanders Frank Trost and Colin Fleury, Lieutenants Rick Ciganek and Sean Rafferty, Sergeants Jim Roscher, Russ Matson, Karen Flannagan and Cherie Aschenbrenner, Officers Jonathan Rustay, Heather Farrell and Lorenz Burkert, and intern Bryan O'Neill to personally meet and greet those in attendance.

"We are proud of the role we have maintained in Elgin since 1967, and we are happy to see the community and the local police department enjoying complimentary McCafe Coffee and conversation together. These are the times that bring a community together," Bear said.

"We are grateful to Commander Frank Trost, who contributed to the coordination of the Coffee With A Cop event, and to all the officers who came to the event, helped serve coffee, had conversations and took pictures with the community members. "

This event was hosted by the Bear Family Restaurants and McDonald's owner/operator, David Bear.
