Windows shot out at South Elgin restaurant under construction

Several windows were shot out at the M.A. Burger and Shakes restaurant under construction at 322 Randall Road in South Elgin, police said Tuesday.

South Elgin Police found five windows had been damaged between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Monday when one of the construction workers entered the building.

"The officers found five bullet holes in five separate panes of window," Sgt. Mike Doty said. "We recovered (real) bullets and bullet fragments in the window, just outside and also inside the building."

Investigators will review surveillance video from the property and other businesses in the area. Police believe this is an isolated case as no other businesses were damaged, Doty said.

"We are checking with other local departments as well to see if they have had any incidents," Doty said. "There's no leads so far. We're hoping the community may have seen something."

Anyone with information is asked to call the South Elgin Police Department's Investigations Division at (847) 741-2151.
