Wauconda students travel back to Civil War era
Fifth-graders at Wauconda Grade School learned about the Civil War on Tuesday through presentations about weaponry, period music and battlefield medicine.
Students also attended an assembly led by an actress portraying famed abolitionist Harriet Tubman.
A group called Living History Presentations put the event together.
The daylong program was designed to augment students' understanding of the war and bring to life the stories of the men and women of the period, Principal Debra Monroe said.
Keith Hiney of Living History Presentations portrays a Union infantry soldier Tuesday during a hands-on program at Wauconda Grade School.
