No injuries as gunman fires on Aurora cop

Aurora police say they're pursuing leads after someone fired two shots at a marked squad car from a dark-colored Jeep late Thursday night.

Authorities said an officer driving a fully marked police vehicle was on routine patrol and heading south on Ohio Street at Claim Street when the first shot came from a Jeep traveling behind the officer.

The officer maneuvered his squad behind the Jeep and began pursuit when the gunman fired a second shot near Claim and Smith streets. Because the officer had a civilian rider with him, he stopped the chase, police said.

The officer did not return fire. There were no injuries and nothing appeared to be hit, police said.

The Jeep was last seen speeding west on Chase Street.
