Limitless Learning Commons emerges from flooded library at Round Lake Park School

Officials at Murphy Elementary on Thursday celebrated the Round Lake Park school's new "Limitless Learning Commons," built where a library and computer room destroyed by a floods once stood.

The new space features modular furniture that can be configured to best suit the day's activities and new technology, including iPads, AppleTVs and more.

The commons has been in the making for more than a year. Soon after the July 2017 floods damaged much of the school's lower level, the Round Lake Area Unit District 116 created a 16-member committee of parents and staff to plan the upgrade. Committee members toured libraries in Wilmette School District 39 and Gurnee School District 56 for inspiration, then developed a plan over the course of two four-hour meetings.

Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake Beach also became the recipient of a Limitless Learning Commons after the floods. The LLC at Ellis was opened in February.
