Garden club awards scholarships

On June 25, the Pottawatomie Garden Club awarded two scholarships to recent graduates of St. Charles East High School.

Jonathon Lingard, a second year student at Utah State, studying agriculture business, and Margaret Bronec, a first-year student at Loyola University, studying environmental policy, were the $3,000 scholarship recipients.

The garden club was able to give two scholarships because of the generous donation made by Dixon Bogart, in honor of his mother, Erma, a longtime Pottawatomie Garden Club member.

On Monday, Sept. 24, Bill Karges will present "Putting Your Garden To Bed."

This program will focus on the many aspects of getting our flower and vegetable gardens put to bed for the winter. The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. with a social time followed by a short business meeting and the program.

The meeting will be held at Baker Memorial Church, 307 Cedar Ave, St. Charles. The public is welcome.

The garden club will close out its year with member's luncheon at the end of October. A Landscape Commendation Award will be presented to a local business.
