South Elgin festival celebrates Scandinavian traditions
Traditional entertainment, history lessons and children's activities were among the highlights Sunday at the annual Scandinavian Day Festival in South Elgin.
Held at historic Vasa Park off Route 31, the event celebrates the customs and traditions of five Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Attendees tried traditional foods and sampled Nordic beer, while children took free pony rides and participated in activities. Families could even get a history lesson from actors portraying historic Scandinavian figures.
The festival also featured live music, dancing, crafts and vendors selling Scandinavian-themed merchandise.
