2 dead in Niles crash involving Cook County Sheriff's squad car

Two women were killed early Thursday when their car collided with a Cook County Sheriff's vehicle at Dempster Street and Harlem Avenue in Niles, authorities said.

The victims, whose names have not be released, were identified by Niles police as a 69-year-old Norridge woman and a 60-year-old Chicago woman. Both were pronounced dead after the crash at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

The sheriff's deputy involved in the crash, a 47-year-old man, was taken to Lutheran General with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

According to Niles police, the sheriff's vehicle was traveling eastbound on Dempster approaching Harlem at about 5:47 a.m. when it collided in the intersection with the passenger side of a Honda Accord driven southbound on Harlem by the Norridge woman.

The crash is being investigated by the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force - Major Crash Assistance Team, police said.
