Get tough on texting

I doubt very much that Gov. Bruce Rauner's attempt to reduce texting while driving by making it a moving violation will succeed in Illinois. Having just visited Sydney, Australia, it didn't take long to notice that there was no texting while driving. Why? Stiff fines are handed out like US $215 and US $288 in school zones. The penalties vary depending on the state you live in. Currently you can receive a fine of US $321 in the state of Victoria. Besides the fines, you also lose demerit points. Only heavy fines that hit your wallet will reduce this unsafe practice. And please,Arlington Heights Police Department, don't hand out cellphone cradles to motorists who break the law instead of fining them.
