Of the 106,670 Illinois kindergarten students surveyed, 24 percent demonstrated readiness in all three developmental areas - social and emotional, language and literacy, and math cognition.*
• 18 percent reached readiness in two areas
• 17 percent reached readiness in one area
• 42 percent did not reach readiness in any areas
• 49 percent demonstrated readiness in social and emotional
• 44 percent demonstrated readiness in language and literacy
• 30 percent demonstrated readiness in math

Racial disparities in readinessBlack and Hispanic/Latino students entered kindergarten with lower rates of readiness than Asian and white peers.
• Asian - 32 percent
• Pacific Islander - 29 percent
• White - 29 percent
• Multi-race - 25 percent
• Native American - 21 percent
• Black - 19 percent
• Latino - 13 percent
Other groupingsStudents receiving support through Individual Education Plans (IEP), free and reduced-price meals, and identified as English learners are entering kindergarten behind the state average. Those demonstrating readiness are:
• 11 percent of students with an IEP
• 15 percent of those identified as English learners
• 16 percent of those enrolled in free and reduced-price lunch, which requires low-income eligibility
