Buffalo Grove police offer free car seat checks Sept. 25

The Buffalo Grove Police Department will provide free car seat checkups from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, in the Buffalo Grove Park District Golf Dome parking lot, 801 N. McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove.

Officers who are certified car seat technicians will examine previously installed car seats for proper fit, and assist in installing car seats. The officers are certified by Safe Kids Worldwide, which requires a weeklong training course, accompanied by practical exams.

"As children are returning to school, the Buffalo Grove Police Department is offering these 'checkups' to ensure car seats are safe and secure," traffic Sgt. Michelle Kondrat said. "It's a great time to remind parents about the importance of a properly installed car seat, whether it is for an infant or school-aged child."

Attendees should enter at the Golf Dome entrance and are asked to bring car seats, along with the vehicle they are to be installed in, in addition to car seat and vehicle manuals. Appointments are not required. The checkups are expected to take approximately 25 minutes.
