Manhole repair to disrupt Wilson/Route 31 traffic Tuesday

Drivers may want to avoid Wilson Street at Batavia Avenue (Route 31) Tuesday morning, as a manhole repair project will mess up traffic.

The city will replace a damaged manhole frame. Work will start at 8 a.m.

Left turns will be prohibited. Northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. Westbound Wilson will be closed, with traffic detoured instead to Houston Street.

Also, the city is taking advantage of a no-school day Tuesday - the Batavia school district is having a teacher-institute day - to accomplish two other projects near schools.

It will pave Carlisle Road, near Alice Gustafson Elementary School.

And it will replace a failing stormwater culvert that runs across Wagner Road between the entrances to Hoover-Wood Elementary School. Wagner will be closed to through traffic for the day. The asphalt will be restored at a later date.
