Black and White Divide workshop planned in Arlington Heights
The Black and White Divide, a group that promotes conversations among suburban residents about race, and the Daily Herald will hold a workshop titled "The Role of the Media in Combating Racism in the Northwest Suburbs" on Thursday, Sept. 6.
The breakfast workshop will be at the Daily Herald's Arlington Heights offices.
Concerned about racism across the nation, a group of residents known as CORE has been sponsoring these workshops for the past three years. The mission is to promote conversations to examine whether racism exists, either implicitly or by intent, in the Northwest suburbs and whether inclusiveness is practiced within institutions serving the area, said the Rev. Clyde H. Brooks of Arlington Heights, chairman of the Illinois Commission on Diversity & Human Relations and an organizer of the workshop.
Previous workshops have focused on schools, religious bodies, police departments and local government. More than 1,000 residents and leaders have participated.
