Aurora Art League to host its 60th annual Members Show

The Aurora Art League will hold its 60th annual Members Show on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8, at the Santori Public Library, 101 S. River St., Aurora.

The show begins at noon on Friday with an artists' reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The reception includes refreshments and live music performed by John Papadolius.

The show continues through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during regular library hours.

The next membership meeting for the Aurora Art League will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Community Room of Downer Place of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, 2007 W. Downer Place, Aurora.

Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a meeting at 6:30 p.m.

The Aurora Art League was organized on March 7, 1919 in a meeting held at the Aurora library.

This meeting included several local art enthusiasts, including Edward Holslag who had recently returned to his hometown to open a studio at the Aurora Hotel.

The first president of the art league, James Cowan, was already a nationally recognized collector of fine art.
