Geneva to close part of Third Street in September for road repairs

Shoppers on South Third Street in Geneva may have to hoof it a little farther from their cars in September, because part of the street will be closed for repairs.

The city has announced it will be closed from Campbell to Fulton streets starting Sept. 17.

Contractors will replace two sections of roadway concrete and a brick sidewalk that heaved last winter.

Traffic will be prohibited on that stretch, as well as the use of more than 40 on-street parking spaces.

But vehicles and pedestrians will be able to cross Campbell, Franklin and Fulton streets throughout the project.

Delivery and garbage vehicles will be prohibited, even after construction hours. The city is asking businesses to schedule deliveries for early-morning hours to avoid congestion on streets around the work zone.

To accommodate detoured traffic, parking will be prohibited on Second Street from Campbell to Fulton.

The city expects the project to be finished by Oct. 5.

It is part of a $1.9 million program to repair or repave streets throughout the city this fall. Geneva Construction is the contractor.
