Cops: Young child wanders from home, reunited with family
Hanover Park police say they are investigating how a boy believed to be about 3 years old wandered on his own from his family's house early Friday morning.
Police said they were alerted at 5:28 a.m. by a resident of a boy who appeared to be about 3 years old, 3 feet tall and 30 pounds being seen by himself standing on property away from the street near Clarendon Court and Andover Drive, an area bounded by Lake Street and County Farm Road.
Officers remained with the boy after he was brought to the police station, providing him with a McDonald's breakfast and a replica Hanover Park police badge, Deputy Police Chief Joe Ciancio said.
His photo and information were posted on the Hanover Park Facebook page, which led someone who saw it to contact the child's family, who lived in the neighborhood. The family went to police headquarters to get the child.
Ciancio said police are investigating the "facts and circumstances" of how the child left the single-family house on his own.
