Girls golf: Prospect edges New Trier

With coach Jim Hamann at his sister's wedding, Prospect girls golf team made sure their he received some good news while out of town on Friday night.

The host Knights pulled off a big 154-156 triumph over defending state champion New Trier in a dual meet they hosted at the Sportsman's Country Club in Northbrook.

"Our girls played well today, they played for coach Hamann," said Knights assistant Rebbeca Schilz.

Leading the way in the momentum-building nonconference win were junior Kelly Kavanagh and senior Amanda Stein, who each carded 37s.

Emma Gries followed with a 39 while and Taylor DiPrima added a 41.

"Emma played well," Schilz added. "She had a nice birdie on No. 8. And Taylor pulled through with our fourth score."

New Trier has won seven state championships since 2000.

"New Trier is always great competition," Schilz said. "They always play with such class. I am proud of our girls. They play for each other and that is always nice to see."
