Peru's Guerrero signs with Brazil's Internacional

SAO PAULO (AP) - Peru striker Paolo Guerrero will play for Brazil's Internacional after his contract with Rio de Janeiro-based giants Flamengo expired.

Internacional announced the move on Sunday, posting a picture of the 34-year-old striker wearing the team's shirt next to the club's chairman.

Guerrero was key for Peru, which reached its first World Cup in 36 years. He scored one goal in Russia.

Peru failed to advance from the group stage, after losses to Denmark and France and a win against Australia.

The striker was at risk of missing the tournament because of a doping suspension, but in May the Swiss Federal Tribunal temporarily lifted a ban imposed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

In December 2017, the Peruvian tested positive for a cocaine metabolite. He denies any wrongdoing.
