Priest celebrates crash survival at Des Plaines Mass

The Des Plaines priest who survived with 102 other people when a commercial jetliner crashed July 31 in a field near the airport in Durango, Mexico, will celebrate his first Mass since his return to the United States at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Des Plaines.

Rev. Esequiel Sanchez, director of the shrine, will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving for his safe return and the return of other passengers who were aboard the Aeromexico flight. The event will be held in the outdoor grotto at the shrine at 1170 N. River Road. Others participating include vice-rectors Rev. Manuel Padilla, Rev. Charlie Plovanich and Rev. Giovanny Navarro Sanchez. All are welcome.

The Mass also will be transmitted via Facebook live on Facebook.com/santuarioguadalupe.
