St. Charles sets goal to collect 1,500 children's books

The City of St. Charles is collecting children's books in August for donation to Bernie's Book Bank, the leading nonprofit provider of quality books to at-risk children in the Chicago area.

Help is needed to meet the goal of 1,500 books.

Collection bins are in the lobbies of the St. Charles Municipal Building, 2 E. Main St., and the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Ave.

The drive will be held through Friday, Aug. 31.

New and gently used children's books for ages birth through sixth grade are welcome.

No workbooks, textbooks, coloring books, reference books or teacher's guides are wanted.

Bernie's Book Bank provides books to schools and social service organizations throughout the area, including those in St. Charles, Wasco, Elgin, West Chicago, and Carpentersville. These organizations then distribute the books to at-risk children.

Each child receives 12 books. More information is at www.berniesbookbank.org.

If you do not have any books but still want to participate, you can donate online at cloud4good.tfaforms.net/384836, type in "St. Charles" as the book drive name, or drop off your donation at the city reception desk.

Eight dollars will provide 12 books to a child for a year.
