Police: Driver fired shots in road rage case

Aurora police are searching for a motorist who fired shots at another driver during an apparent case of road rage.

No one was injured during the shooting around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at Church Road and Hankes Avenue.

Authorities say the events leading up to the crime started when two cars, a Pontiac Grand Prix and a gray sedan similar to a Volkswagen Passat, were headed east on Indian Trail, near High Street.

As both cars approached High, the driver of the Pontiac, who was in the left lane, wanted to turn south. But the driver of the other vehicle, who was in the right lane, kept speeding up and wouldn't let the Pontiac change lanes, police said.

The driver of the Pontiac, an 18-year-old Aurora man, ended up getting behind the other car, and both vehicles turned south onto High.

Shortly after both cars made the turn, the driver of the gray sedan pulled to the side of the road. When the Pontiac passed him, he started following it. Both cars then turned east on Hankes.

When they got to the intersection of Church and Hankes, the driver of the gray sedan fired several shots, hitting the Pontiac more than once but missing any of the occupants, police said.

In addition to the driver, there was another 18-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman in the Pontiac.

There is no definitive description of the suspect, police said.
