Aug. 18: Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series time trials and qualifying, Route 66 Raceway, 3200 S. Chicago St., Joliet. Unlike any other event at Route 66 Raceway, the D'Arcy Buick GMC Route 66 Classic will feature nostalgia match drag racing. This means that Funny Cars, Altereds, Pro Stocks and over 200 other vehicles, all 1979 and older, will have the chance to take a pass during the event. Route 66 Raceway is calling all vintage vehicle owners to attend and display as a part of the Classic Car Cruise-In. Sept. 16: Super Chevy Show, Route 66 Raceway, 3200 S. Chicago St., Joliet. The pages of Super Chevy Magazine will come to life with a large collection of Chevrolet vehicles in one place, ranging from classics to modern, all looking to take home the best in class award and a coveted Super Chevy Show jacket. The show will feature an all GM car show that will be professionally judged by a panel including Event Director Ron Fetter. The event will also offer a swap meet where fans can find that hard-to-locate part or thing you didn't know you had to have. Oct. 6: The Elburn Lions Club hosts its annual Car Cruise & Steak Dinner. Cruise participants should be at Elburn Lions Park, 500 Filmore St., by 3 p.m. to embark on a drive through the countryside for about an hour. Group returns to Elburn Lions Park where seminars on vehicle authentication, pin striping, flower arranging and holiday card creations will be available before the rib-eye steak dinner with a salad bar and baked potato.
