South Elgin to host annual Night Night Out block party Aug. 7
South Elgin's largest block party, National Night Out, will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7. A highlight of the evening will be a concert by 7th Heaven.
Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, the National Night Out Against Crime event is dedicated to crime/drug prevention programs in communities throughout America. South Elgin's event is an award winner - and a summertime community favorite held on the first Tuesday of August.
A patriotic tribute display of American flags by the True Patriots Care Foundation. Weather and time permitting, a Flight for Life Superior Air Ambulance Helicopter will make a landing.
There will be a special appearance by The Hamburglar from 6 to 8 p.m.; a performance by AGT Those Funny Little People Officer Friendly and Officer Stern; South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District kid's water fight competition; fastpitch fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics of Illinois ($1 for three balls - win Cubs or Sox gear); South Elgin Home Depot's free kids workshop making a tool holder; Tom Boz' Strolling Magic Show; and face painting by JustFaceIt.
Returning to the South Elgin event will be Tammy Town, a traveling training town to promote child safety.
Kids can check out the Randall Oaks Traveling Animal Zoo; the Antique Police and Fire Vehicles Display; South Elgin Emergency and Public Works Vehicle Display; and the showcase of Elgin Area School District U-46 Elementary School artwork.
Representatives of the U.S. armed forces (Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and the National Guard) will be on hand, as well as representatives from law enforcement and government agencies, such as the FBI; U.S. Marshall K-9 Unit; Illinois State Police; Kane County Coroner's Office; Kane County Mounted Rangers; Kane County SWAT team; and TriCom Central Dispatch.
South Elgin Police Department will offer motorcycle and K-9 demonstrations.
The South Elgin Parks & Recreation will have games for kids. The South Elgin Department of Community Development will have a demonstration of "Living on the Floodplain." Or stop by the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run tent.
Purchase discounted carnival wristbands for the upcoming Riverfest.
