Water fights, music and more at 85th annual Lake Villa Days

Lake Villa Days is here again, to be held on Aug. 2-5 at Lehmann Park in downtown Lake Villa. This will be the 85th consecutive year for this event.

The Lake Villa Firefighters Association, which hosts the event, has grown to include past members, retirees and individuals from the community. The association looks forward to working alongside these dedicated volunteers and sharing in the fun of Lake Villa Days with all those who attend.

All of the money raised during Lake Villa Days, along with other donations, helps fund a variety of educational resources for firefighters and maintain current property and equipment, in addition to giving back to the community in a variety of ways. Money raised and donated within the last year helped to provide for the less fortunate on both Thanksgiving and Christmas, and to help underprivileged families provide gifts for their children during the holidays.

Some of the events scheduled for this year's festival include the Lake, McHenry and Kenosha County Firefighter's water fights on Saturday, Aug. 4, with registration at 5 p.m. and fights at 5:30 p.m. Water fights for local businessmen and businesswomen will be on Sunday, Aug. 5, with registration at 11 a.m. The men's water fights will be at noon; the women's water fights will immediately follow the men's.

Other planned activities include rides, bingo, gaming, refreshments and music.

The festivities start at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 2 and 3; at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4; and at noon on Sunday, Aug. 5. Live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights starts about 9 p.m. featuring Bella Cain on Friday and Modern Day Romeos on Saturday.

New this year, wrist bands for carnival rides will be available each day; Sunday's wrist band purchase will include a free hot dog from the food booth. Face painting will also be available on Sunday as well.

A raffle will also be held. Tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20. Winner need not be present; tickets can be purchased at the fire station at 68 E. Grand Ave., Lake Villa A total of 12 cash prizes will be given out, with two top prizes of $500.
