Census Listening Session to feature panel discussion

As a follow-up to the June 6 meeting hosted at the Open Door Health Center by the Grand Victoria Foundation, the Gail Borden Public Library, in partnership with Forefront, invites you to attend a Community Census Briefing at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, in the Meadows Community Room at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove in Elgin. Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi will open the session.

It will be followed by a panel discussion with Perry Maier from Open Door Health Center, Jaime Garcia from Centro de Informacion, Steve Monroy of MALDEF and John Young of Common Cause Illinois, which will be moderated by Anita Banerji, director of Forefront's Democracy Initiative.

Data collected by the U.S. Census determines how public resources (dollars, political representation, etc.) are allocated in these communities.

This session is intended to help in initial planning in the Elgin community for preparing for an accurate count for the 2020 Census.
