Palatine Jaycees host free yoga session to promote peace

The Palatine Jaycees, in collaboration with lululemon, is hosting a free yoga session and meditation to promote peace from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, in the Palatine Towne Square.

Ambassadors from lululemon will lead the yoga session. This project is tied into the larger international Jaycees initiative "Peace is Possible."

"Peace in our world starts in our own communities and with individuals. Our goal is to bring people in our community together from different backgrounds and socioeconomic classes to deliver the message that peace is possible through movement, meditation and group activities," said Ashley Soriano, project co-chairwoman.

"We will create the opportunity to learn the basics of yoga, which provide an outlet to train the mind and body and create self-regulation"

"We invite everyone to join in. All ages and abilities are welcome. Bring a yoga mat if you have one and wear comfortable clothes," added Rachel Smith, project co-chairwoman.

"We see this event as a small, but necessary, step in creating an opportunity to help our community to find ways to collaborate to make peace in our immediate area a possibility."

The purpose of the Peace is Possible campaign is to mobilize young people worldwide to create awareness, advocate, take action and commit to an everlasting world peace.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees, one of 50 local chapters throughout Illinois, has more than 130 members and is one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21 and 40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community and have been recognized statewide, nationally and internationally for their efforts.

The Palatine Chapter holds its monthly general meeting at 7:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at Durty Nellie's in Palatine.
