Suspect charged with attempted robbery of Des Plaines bank

A 37-year-old West suburban man faces an attempted robbery charge after police say he tried to rob a Des Plaines bank last week but fled when the teller set of an alarm.

Pablo Corona, of the 300 block of Clayton Drive in Hillside, was arrested Friday on the felony charge after an investigation by Des Plaines police and the FBI, authorities said Monday.

According to police. Corona entered the Jewel-Osco store at 1500 Lee St. in Des Plaines at about 12:01 p.m. Wednesday, approached the teller at the TCF Bank located within the grocery store and handed over a note demanding all the money from the register.

After reading the note, the teller activated the bank's panic alarm. Police said that apparently startled Corona, who fled the scene without any money.

After the investigation with the assistance of the FBI, Des Plaines detectives were able to identify Corona as the would be robber and arrested him Friday.

Bond and court date information was not available Monday.
