Germanfest wraps up in Lombard

It was a festival weekend in Lombard, which means plenty of carnival rides, children's activities, games, bingo, bands - it's not really a party if 7th heaven doesn't take the stage at some point - and food.

But this one was a little different because most of the food had a distinct German flair - schnitzel, pork shanks, pretzels with mustard, beer and apple strudel - that you'd probably expect from a four-day celebration called Germanfest.

This was the fest's 51st year and, as usual, it was sponsored by Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Elizabeth Street.

The Breen family - Margie, Peter and two-year-old Matthew - of Lombard enjoy some German food Sunday during the annual Sacred Heart Catholic Church Germanfest in Lombard. Mark Black/mblack@dailyherald.com
