Garden Club of Inverness Awards Scholarships

The Garden Club of Inverness was happy to award $11,000.00 in scholarships to five students planning to major in environmental related fields at its annual Spring Luncheon, Thursday May 17, 2018, and the Inverness Golf Club.

Four of the five recipients attended the following high schools with their respective universities and majors: Barrington High School, attending Vanderbilt University, majoring in Biology; Fremd High School, attending University of Illinois, majoring in Environmental Engineering; Hoffman Estates High School, attending Southern Illinois University, majoring in Environmental Engineering; Palatine High School, attending Cornell University, majoring in Environmental and Civil Engineering. The fifth recipient is a third year student at the University of Wisconsin, majoring in Fisheries and Aquatic Studies.

The Garden Club of Inverness offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and college and post-graduate students with a demonstrated interest in an environmentally related field, e.g. horticulture, botany, landscape architecture, agriculture, forestry services, conservation, natural resource management, or environmental engineering.

Through its annual Holiday Luncheon, held each December, members and guests participated in silent auctions, raffles, and the selling of items made by Garden Club members. This is the club's only fundraiser, and through these efforts, the Club is able to give back to the community by awarding these scholarships.

Applicants must reside in High School District 211 or in the Barrington High School area. The Garden Club of Inverness has been able to grant many scholarships of the years through its fundraising efforts, and looks forward to continuing its support of such outstanding students.
