Summer Travel Tips for Seniors

Travel is often a part of summer plans, however, when we travel with our senior loved ones, we may be faced with challenges we don't expect. Perhaps your loved one may not be able to get around without a wheelchair or walker, or they may have a specific health condition such as Alzheimer's disease; any of these can make vacationing much more difficult, regardless of whether you're traveling by plane or car. Families can use the tips below, courtesy of Senior Helpers, the nation's premier provider of in-home senior care, to enjoy a hassle-free trip that is memorable and fun this holiday season.

•Talk it Up-Get your love one excited about the trip and make sure he or she feels included

•Pack Lightly-Less in your hands will allow you to give more attention to your loved one

•Essentials On Hand-Make sure items like medications, important documents, snacks, sunscreen, etc. are easy to access

•Timing is Everything-If possible, plan a late morning or early afternoon departure

•Slow it Down-Ease up on the activities! Seniors tend to believe "less is more" when it comes to travel
