Northwestern Mutual-Chicago raises over $75K for childhood cancer research

Northwestern Mutual-Chicago is well on its way to raising awareness and funding for research that will accelerate a cure for childhood cancer. As part of the annual "Race for Research" corporate challenge, the Chicago-based financial planning firm has raised over $75,000 at its annual golf outing and dinner auction fundraiser at Glen Oak Country Club in Glen Ellyn.

"We are always amazed at the compassionate support our financial professionals, their family and friends, and our sponsors show for our childhood cancer program," said Nikki Perryman, director of operations and the head of the firm's Childhood Cancer Impact Committee.

"Together, we can achieve our goal to fund needed childhood cancer research and support programs for families impacted by the disease," she added.

This year's event was dedicated to the legacy of Hadley Lehr, whose mother, Heather, shared their family's journey battling their daughter's cancer.

Jay Scott, co-executive director of Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, highlighted how his organization is on a mission to change the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer.

The messages were well received among the 24 volunteers, 84 golfers, 125 dinner auction attendees and 19 hole sponsors and gold sponsors Goldman Sachs and T. Rowe Price.

"Race for Research" is a corporate challenge between Northwestern Mutual offices around the country, focused on raising awareness and financial support for childhood cancer. All funds raised during the race period which runs to July 20, 2018, benefits nonprofit partner, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

Northwestern Mutual launched its Childhood Cancer Program in 2012 to help find cures, provide family and patient support and aid those who struggle with the long-term effects of treatment. The program has contributed more than $17 million with the help of its employees and financial representatives nationwide, and funded more than 200,000 hours of research.

Beyond "Race for Research," Northwestern Mutual - Chicago with offices in downtown Chicago, Deerfield, Oak Brook and Rosemont actively works year-round to raise funds by hosting lemonade stands, basketball clinics for kids, charity workouts and casual days in their office.
