Brass Quintet Advocates for the Arts With Downtown Long Grove Performances, July 20th & 22nd

The Heights Brass Quintet, a group of five classical musicians from the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, will be performing a family friendly mix of pop, jazz, and movie music at 5:00 pm July 20th and 1:00 pm July 22nd at the Downtown Long Grove Sidewalk Sale as part of their summer 2018 community concert series.

This series, which also includes performances throughout greater Chicago, helps raise awareness for the group's "Brass Gives Back" campaign, a continuous nonprofit program which enables the ensemble to present concerts and educational programs to under-served members of the Chicago community. For every wedding, party, or other private engagement performed, the ensemble promises to bring a concert to a local school, library, assisted living facility, homeless shelter, or other community organization with limited access to arts education.

"The idea's actually inspired in part by Toms, the shoe company," says tubist and artistic director, Alan Luntz. "They were one of the first organizations to have a 'buy one, give one' model, meaning that for every shoe they sold, they gave one to a child in need. I thought, why not apply this to music? Some people have criticized Toms for just being a band-aid solution, but when it comes to education rather than consumer goods, I believe that we're really creating positive long-term change."

The summer concert program will also include the following performances:

The Winnetka Farmers' Market: Saturday, July 7th, 10:30 am - 12:00 noon

Nettelhorst School French Market: Saturday, August 25th & September 8th, both at 10:00 am

Edgewater Fall Fest: Sunday, September 30th, 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Celtic Knot Public House: Saturday, October 6th at 9:30 pm
