Elgin councilman announces resignation
Elgin Councilman Rich Dunne announced Wednesday he'll be resigning from his post "probably effective" in August after getting a job promotion in Washington state.
Dunne has served on the Elgin City Council since 2009. His term ends in 2021. The city council could appoint someone to fill his seat until the April 2019 election.
He worked for the Elgin Fire Department for 25 years and served as the city's last fire marshal. He retired from the fire department in 2012 when he took a job as fire program specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Dunne has lived in Elgin since 1988 with his wife Judy, with whom he raised three daughters.
