South Elgin closes parks, trails due to flooding

As a result of the recent the heavy rains, the village of South Elgin has closed the following areas for safety: Bike Path Park; Thornwood bike trails; Fox River Bike Trail, south of the State Street bridge;

Panton Mill Park; and SEBA Park, east of the Fox River Bike Trail.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has closed the Fox River from the Stratton Lock and Dam to the north and the Montgomery Dam to the south.

Region 2 Commander Brett Scroggins advised that with the swift current, floating debris and submerged structures and piers conditions are significantly hazardous to navigation.

The conditions are also treacherous for emergency service personnel called upon to rescue persons involved in boating mishaps.
