Palatine man charged with attempted murder in stabbing

A 45-year-old Palatine man accused of stabbing a woman in the abdomen Saturday morning at a Palatine condominium complex is now facing an attempted murder charge, Palatine police said Tuesday.

Nestor Guzman attacked the 39-year-old woman during a confrontation just before 8 a.m. June 23, at the Windhaven Condominiums on Dundee Quarter Drive, according to police.

The conflict that lead to the stabbing began as an argument about their relationship, police said. As the woman left for work, Guzman stabbed her, authorities say.

The woman was rushed to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she underwent surgery for her injuries. She is expected to recover, according to police.

Within an hour of the original 911 call, police found Guzman walking less than a mile from the complex near the intersection of Rand Road and Winslowe Drive. He was taken into custody without incident.

A Cook County judge set bail for Guzman at $500,000 Tuesday. He's scheduled to return to court July 19.
