Arguments heard in District 211 transgender lawsuit appeal
An Illinois appellate court in Chicago hear oral arguments Tuesday stemming from recent Palatine High School graduate Nova Maday's appeal of a lower court's ruling that denied the transgender student full access to a girls locker room at the school.
Cook County circuit court Judge Thomas Allen in January denied Maday's request for a preliminary injunction against Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211's restrictions on her use of the locker room while her lawsuit is pending.
Maday was born male but identifies as female. Under District 211's rules, she was permitted to use the girls locker room as long as she always used a private changing stall within.
District 211 officials argue the Illinois Department of Human Rights found no evidence of discrimination.
The appellate court did not immediately rule on the appeal.
