Remembering Elk Grove Village Trustee Michael A. Tosto

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael A. Tosto. Mike served the community as a Village Trustee for 22 years, from April 1973 through April 1995. Before becoming a Trustee, Michael served as a volunteer firefighter for 10 years from 1963-1973. During his tenure on the Village Board, Mike worked with 2 Village Presidents, 2 Village Managers, 14 Trustees, and 3 Village Clerks.

As a Village Trustee, Mike served as the Alternate Director for the Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency and took personal pride in the acquisition of Lake Michigan Water. Another of his notable achievements was pushing to modernize the Village Fire Department, with the addition of state of the art ambulances.

Throughout his tenure as a Village Trustee, Mike also provided crucial input into many projects that made the Village what it is today, including the process of the Biesterfield Road extension and interchange; construction of the Municipal Complex; development of the Elk Crossing, Mallard Square, and Super Kmart shopping centers; and the redevelopment of the Grove Mall into the Elk Grove Town Center.

Trustee Tosto used not only his experience, but also his love for this community, its residents, and employees when making decisions. All those who worked with Mike Tosto throughout his 32 years of public service cherished his friendship and admired his strength of character.

Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson, who originally served as a Village Trustee with Mike Rosto, said, "Mike was known for his storytelling skills and the everyday enthusiasm he brought to the Village. As Mike would always say, 'Atsa you, atsa me.' Mike Tosto will be missed, but never forgotten."

The Village of Elk Grove will have our flags lowered to half-staff from the afternoon of Thursday, June 28, 2018 to the morning of Monday, July 2, 2018 to honor former Village Trustee Michael A. Tosto.
