Indiana crash that killed 73-year-old leads to probation

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana man has been sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty in a crash that killed a 73-year-old man.

WANE-TV reports Liam B. Burke of Fort Wayne was given his punishment Friday after earlier entering the plea to felony reckless homicide and criminal recklessness and misdemeanor criminal recklessness. The sentence also includes one year of home detention.

The 18-year-old's sentence was in line with a plea agreement.

Burke, who was 17 at the time of the May 2017 crash, has said he was driving about 90 mph (145 kph) along a road with a 40 mph (64 kph) speed limit when his Ford Mustang plowed into Frederick Neuls' vehicle as Neuls turned into a driveway. Neuls died from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.
