Family displaced after Elgin garage fire

One family was displaced from an Elgin home following a garage fire Friday night.

Elgin firefighters were dispatched to a four-unit townhouse in the 700 block of Millcreek Circle at 7:26 p.m. According to firefighters, the barking of a family dog at the garage door called attention to the fire.

Within three minutes, the first units arrived on the scene and found flames and smoke coming from an attached two-car garage.

Firefighters said they met with the homeowner, who told them everyone was out of the building.

The fire was upgraded to a "working fire" due to the volume of fire and its potential of spreading. The fire was then upgraded to a Box Alarm for additional resources.

Within 15 minutes, the fire was extinguished.

Firefighters said there were no injuries, but one family was displaced due to fire and smoke damage.

The fire is under investigation.
