7-year-old boy airlifted to hospital after being hit by car

A 7-year-old boy was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle while he was crossing a street in Aurora Thursday, authorities said.

The boy was struck by a 17-year-old female driver at about 5:40 p.m. while crossing the street near the corner of Woodruff and Superior streets in a quiet residential area of Aurora, according to Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

The boy was transported by helicopter to a suburban hospital with non-life threatening leg and hip injuries, Ferrelli said.

The driver was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to Ferrelli.
