Lombard Historical Society offers dulcimer concert

Chicago-based hammered dulcimer player Phil Passen will be the featured performer on Friday, June 15, when the Lombard Historical Society presents its first outdoor Concert at the Gazebo.

"From Prairie to Farm to City: Music to Commemorate the Illinois Bicentennial" will feature music that reflects the story of Illinois.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. under a large tent at the William J. Mueller Memorial Gazebo behind the Victorian Cottage, 23 W. Maple St. Funding for the program is provided in part through an Illinois Arts Council Artstour and Live Music Grant.

Passen performed for many years for the Chicago Department of Aviation's tourist programs at O'Hare International Airport and the Green City Market. He also played in the World Symphony Orchestra's performance of "The Lord of the Rings Symphony" at Chicago's Auditorium Theater.

After the performance, audience members can take a closer look at the dulcimer and try their hand at playing it.
