Indiana cop won't face charges in motorcyclist's crash death

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (AP) - A northern Indiana police officer won't face criminal charges in a motorcyclist's crash death during a police pursuit after dashcam video showed the officer was about a quarter-mile behind the fleeing man when he crashed.

Mishawaka police Chief Kenneth Witkowski said Monday the video from Patrolman Andrew Sark's cruiser dispels Facebook speculation from 46-year-old John M. Williams' supporters that an officer must have "bumped" his motorcycle, forcing it to crash.

The May 26 crash also injured a woman passenger on Williams' motorcycle who was a suspect in a bar fight.

The South Bend Tribune reports Sark was seeking 41-year-old Rebecca Mack when Williams fled with her, disregarded traffic lights and the cruiser's emergency lights before crashing about a quarter-mile ahead of Sark.

Mack faces battery charges in the bar fight.
