Convictions upheld in slayings of Gary brothers, 3rd person

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the murder convictions and 195-year sentence of a Gary man in the 2015 slayings of two teenage brothers and a third person.

Forty-year-old David Johnson IV was convicted last August in the shooting deaths of 18-year-old Arreon Lackey and 16-year-old Antonio Lackey of Gary and that of 46-year-old Alfred Wiley.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reported Tuesday the appeals court ruled the trial judge acted correctly in joining the cases after the brothers' slayings were spurred in part by their theft of a handgun used in the Wiley killing.

Prosecutors say the Lackey brothers were kidnapped as part of a plot to retrieve a gun.

Johnson's wife, Jeri Woods, was sentenced to 120 years in prison for murder convictions in the brothers' deaths.
